literally two peas in a pod

Two Peas in a Pod / Heidi Montag

Quoting from “A Socialite’s Life”:

Heidi Montag Clearly Gets Her Bad Judgement from Her Parents
Heidi said that her parents could see that the two youngsters were very much in love and compatible with one another.

“They loved Spencer, they really did.”

“They thought he was so funny, and they thought we were literally two peas in a pod.”

I’m really hoping that Heidi has absolutely no understanding of what the word “literally” means, or else it means that her parents are complete idiots. Although, the fact that they really “love” Spencer makes me wonder…

(Thanks, Gemma and Carolyn!)

From childhood, at around the time I learned what “literally” meant, I realised many people used it when they meant “metaphorically” or “figuratively” or “in a literary way” – the last meaning in the high-falutin’ linguistically-posturing way some pretentious writers use in the hope of impressing.
