I was watching the NFL network yesterday (9/17) and the announcer (unfortunately, I don’t know his name), in talking about the Giants comeback victory over the Eagles, mentioned that the Giants had “literally put a bullet in the heads of the Eagles“. Well, no wonder they won!

I thought that was illegal… Eagles are endangered.

    Nice blog.

My favourite of these came about six months ago, when a BBC Radio presenter described Tony Blair as having “literally turned himself into a lame duck.”

Which was an amusing mental image if nothing else.

Hyperbole. Also, you have misused the word ‘grammar’. This blog is not about grammar, it is about semantics.

Did you know that this blog entry was cited without reference in a Harvard Crimson op-ed piece?

Discovery of this fact has (literally) resulted in the dismissal of a regular contributor to that paper.
