literally a natural disaster
September 6th, 2005 by Fitz

Please join me in donating to the American Red Cross (1-800-HELP-NOW) for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
Every natural disaster seems to trigger a corresponding surge in the use of “literally”: search Yahoo! News for “hurricane katrina literally”
For example:
In New Orleans, where I spent the day, it is literally a sea of inhumanity.
Literally and figuratively, I think we’ve weathered the storm, as the release of strategic reserves has calmed the market
In the last day-and-a-half, I’ve had over 1000 people walk into my office,. Literally, I’ve told every one that they would not leave empty handed.

Okay, so I lied, I didn’t donate to the American Red Cross… my employer was matching employee contributions, so I instead donated through them to The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham and The Baton Rouge Area Foundation.
Please help any way you can!

I appreciate this site- thanks! I, myself, indeed did donate to the Cross, but alas I donated before my employer at the time made me aware that they matched : ( Sorry, Red Cross…
As for this particular passage- it brings something else, related, to light- the copious and unending usage of cliche as a communication tool [such as, “brings to light”] whereby I lose all context for whatever it is we’re talking about. I literally lose my mind in the tangled web of the cliched world. Literally.
Thanks guys. Excellent well.
