literally anyone on Earth

Dave Chappelle standing in a crowd (photoshopped)

Chappelle’s Show writer Chris Brennan talking about the new season’s skits, in Time magazine:

Dave Speaks (TIME.com)
They’re really, really funny. And I’d be confident showing them to anyone on Earth. Literally — Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Chris Tucker, Martin Lawrence, Richard Pryor.

This is a weird one. On the one hand, you could take it to mean the five people he named constitute “anyone on Earth.” On the other hand (and how he probably meant it), those names are a sampling of people who might be the toughest critics. Anyway, I think it is definitely unnecessary.

That would be a strange world that consisted only of Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Chris Tucker, Martin Lawrence, and Richard Pryor.

BTW, I was tempted to give this entry the title “I’m literally Rick James, bitch!”

You totally should have. I mean… you literally should have.
