Donovan leads U.S. into Cup qualifier (USATODAY)
Landon Donovan will be literally a marked man again Wednesday when the USA plays Panama in World Cup qualifying at Estadio Rommel Fernandez. Piling up six goals and seven assists tends to get an opponent’s full attention.
The figure of speech “marked” means to be singled out for notice or especially for a dire fate, but unless Landon Donovan has a target painted on his forehead he won’t literally be a marked man.
